This species is a popular garden choice in tropical to semi-tropical areas and has naturalized in many countries in both the new and old world. It's native habitat extends from Myanmar, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Thailand, Vietnam, the Ryokyo Islands, Malaysia, Singapore, China, Indonesia, the Philippines and New Guinea. Commonly known as the bamboo orchid, it can form large clumps up to 6 to 8 ft in height. It generally blooms in the summer to autumn, but may flower at any time of the year. This species is actually invasive in Hawaii! Its hardy to USDA zone 9. If grown potted, it needs consistently moist soil.
