About Us
Welcome to Hengduan Mountains Biotechnology. Dedicated to the conservation of Chinese orchid species, we offer seed grown cypripedium species and hybrids, paphiopedilum species and hybrids, and a wide variety of other epiphytic and terrestrial orchids from China, as well as from some of our neighboring countries. We are located in the outskirts of Chengdu, China and have operated our laboratory and nursery since 2003. We travel to the USA and Europe several times a year, and offer our customers the opportunity to place preorders for our products. The prices shown on this website include our costs for international air cargo, cites, phytosanitary, and broker costs. This website was set up for our customers in the USA.We also estimate the cost of domestic shipping when you order through this website.
In the future we hope to have versions for our Canadian, Japanese and European customers.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Ron Parsons (South San Francisco, CA) who graciously provided us with many of the photographs used to illustrate the orchids (and some of the ornamental plants as well).
We also conduct several botanical tours each year to the mountains of Sichuan, Yunnan, and occasionally Guangxi and Fujian. The spring tours (April, May and June) offer the opportunity to see terrestrial and epiphytic orchids, alpine flowers, rhododendrons, peonies and the ethnic minority cultures of Western China, while our autumn tours feature late blooming alpine flowers such as gentians (Aba Grasslands, Tibetan Plateau), and blooming paphiopedilum (tropical Yunnan tours). All of our tours include cultural highlights, fantastic local cuisine, and amazing scenery. More information on our tour pages.
We encourage you to watch this wonderful video prepared by one of our customers, Marc (from Belgium) and his You Tube Channel called Toekie World. It also features footage by Tom Velardi (Botany Boy) who traveled with us a number of years ago. Wonderful photos of our lab, our nursery in the mountains, seedlings, and at the end, unboxing some new orchids.
